Ichi ByōShi offers kendo for children aged 8-17 who are keen to learn the sport. Like the adult class, this is hosted in Aylesbury High School.

  • There is no special equipment required for around 4 months.
  • All instructors are CRB checked.
  • Equipment is not provided by the club for beginners, but weapons can be loaned for the first couple of lessons to try kendo out. Please see our links page for suggested places to purchase equipment.

Beginners Courses

How to get started

The club welcomes beginners to try out Kendo and see if this is the martial art for them. We wish to ensure that your initial experience is sufficiently long and comprehensive enough to enable you to make a decision.

New Starters

You are welcome to join any of the sessions, and experience Kendo amongst a wide range of other players, from new starters to 5th Dan!
You will be loaned the weapons you need for the basics. You just need to come along in comfortable sports clothing. Joggers and a T-shirt are fine.
Temporary membership of the BKA needs to be acquired directly by the student, from the BKA.

Want to have a look?

If you would like to come and visit the club, you are welcome to come along and observe a training session. We apologise but we cannot allow you to train with us on that visit.

BKA Membership and Insurance

BKA Membership

In order to train you MUST have insurance. Insurance is gained through membership of the British Kendo Association and is the only source we recognise.

If you are joining us from another club, then you will be required to prove membership.

New joiners can take three months of temporary membership, with insurance, from the BKA. At the end of the trial period, this will need to be converted to full membership.

Annual Seniors fee: £40

Annual Concession/student fee: £22.50

Annual Juniors fee: £15

There is a new members admin fee of £10, charged by the BKA.
