What is Kendo?

Kendo (剣道), or "way of the sword", is the Japanese martial art of sword-fighting. Kendo developed from traditional techniques of Japanese swordsmanship known as kenjutsu and now is also an international sport.

Who are we?

The club has been around eighteen years, continuously offering training at all levels. Friendly and open, we welcome all ages and abilities. Senior instructor John Bates has been practising for 22 years and won Gold in national Kata competition.

Classes cost £35 per calender month.
Membership of the BKA is neccesary to train.

Ichi ByōShi Kendo Club key details:

  • Seniors classes in Aylesbury
  • Thursday 19:30-21:30: Aylesbury High School
  • Junior classes in Aylesbury
  • Saturday 10:00-12:00: Aylesbury High School
  • We cater for beginners and experienced Kendoka
  • Classes are not gender specific

The club intends to compete to the highest levels taking advantage of the best standards of coaching which are available from Kendo instructors both from the UK and Japan. We will be inviting top instructors of the BKA to the club and will accompany students to seminars by senior Japanese coaches. The club will aim to assist the development of it's members as athletes and as individuals, stressing the benefits of respect and discipline whilst ensuring that the students have fun and enjoy their training. All students will learn all aspects of Kendo and have the opportunity to compete if they wish.
